Even in Microsoft’s backyard, Google still reigns as the top search engine. The Seattle Press-Intelligencer reports that recent findings by ad network Chitka suggest, as they found that Google represents 79 percent of all search engine usage in Redmond, Washington, home to the corporate headquarters of Microsoft. Meanwhile, Microsoft’s Bing search engine accounted for 16 percent of all search engine usage – almost four times more than the national average but still far below that of Google.
Baidu, which operates the largest search engine portal in China, announced on Thursday that its first-quarter profits had increased by 165 percent. According to The Associated Press, profits rose thanks to increased advertising revenue and volume of advertising customers.
Will Apple have its own search engine in the not-so-distant future? That’s what a leading tech analyst is predicting is likely to happen. Gene Munster, who analyzes Apple for Piper Jaffray, told Business Insider that he believes there is a “70 percent” chance that Apple will build its own search engine in the next five years.

Redmond, Washington – December 8, 2005 – Microsoft Corp., has launched a beta version of Windows Live Local. The new site is an online local search and mapping service that combines satellite imagery with advanced driving directions, Yellow Pages and other local search tools.
The new search product uses the Virtual Earth mapping and location platform, and gives users new ways to map and find directions to various locations and better visualize their surroundings from multiple aerial vantage points.
